Who is not familiar with that famous 18th century Venetian lover of women, Casanova? With the greatest of ease he managed to win the heart of every woman – and the resentment of every man in Venice. The subject of a government inquiry, he fled the constraints of Venice to write his 12 volume autobiography, History of My Life. Composer Otto M. Schwarz, in the third part of his rondo series, has endeavoured to portray the story of Casanova musically. Here are the enticing women who wait upon him, as well as the other side of the coin, where Casanova must flee his opponents. But it is precisely this lure of forbidden fruit that calls him to action again and again. Casanova died at the age of 72, in 1789, knowing he had lived a fulllife.
