Groovin’ Around was composed on commission of the Crossover Project 2003 of the OÖBV (Oberösterreichischer Blasmusikverband) – the Upper Austrian Wind Music Association. Driving drum grooves, a straight rhythm, catchy melodies, and much space for the soloists’ creativity – that’s how you could describe Groovin’ Around by Otto M. Schwarz. In the genre of film music, the composer’s main field of activity, there are many styles to compose in and to adapt for various ensembles. Therefore, it is a matter close to his heart to compose music for wind band in a modern pop music style. Compositions by Otto M. Schwarz of this genre, such as Funk Attack, Band Fever, and many more, have been performed with great success all over the world and are becoming increasingly popular. During Groovin’ Around, the audience will hardly be able to stay in their seats. This work offers the soloists the opportunity to improvise; written-out solos are also provided, so that all soloists have the chance to prove themselves in the spotlight.
